Paramount announced that the latest installment in the Terminator franchise has been bumped from the release schedule. The film was slated to hit theaters May 19, 2017, but the studio has instead opted to premier Baywatch in its place.

Paramount and Skydance Entertainment put the kibosh on the sequel’s release on the heels of another Terminator disappointment. The most recently released chapter in the series, Terminator: Genisys, premiered last summer and featured Arnold Schwarzenegger reprising his iconic role. But not even the the Governator could save the film from its own mediocrity. Genisys opened to unsavory reviews and grossed less than $90M ticket sales domestically. The studio scheduled release dates for Terminator 2 and Terminator 3 back in 2014—10 months before the first film’s box-office failure. The fate of the sequels is now unknown, but it certainly doesn’t look good for the Terminator franchise.

The studio has now turned its full attention toward Baywatch, starring Dwayne Johnson and Zac Efron. The film, directed by Seth Gordon, is a big-screen adaptation based on the hit ‘90s show about lifeguards running across California beaches in slow motion.
