After The Killing Joke, DC’s next animated film will be an adaptation of the Justice League Dark series. This was revealed thanks to the British Board of Film Classification’s post regarding the special features that will be included with The Killing Joke, one of which is a sneak peek at Justice League Dark.
Justice League Dark began with DC’s New 52 relaunch and focused on the team of John Constantine, Zatanna, Madame Xanadu, Deadman, Enchantress and Shade the Changing Man. These heroes tackled supernatural and magical threats and were independent from the normal Justice League.
This does not bode well for the live action Justice League Dark film that has been in development since 2012 and had Guillermo del Toro attached for some time. It is overwhelmingly likely that film is cancelled at this point.
It will be interesting to see how DC translates these stranger, less well-known heroes to film, and we’re excited to watch Justice League Dark when it comes out.
